The LeRoy Economic Development Authority (EDA) has partnered with LSI Consulting to manage Wildwood Grove Assisted Living & Memory Care. The change for the city-owned facility took effect on Saturday, Feb. 1. The decision aims to provide additional oversight and resources while ensuring compliance with evolving state regulations. The EDA will remain involved in the facility’s operations through regular meetings with LSI.

Addressing challenges

For months, the EDA has struggled to address ongoing challenges, including resident recruitment and the increasingly complex regulatory landscape for assisted living facilities.

“Oversight of an assisted living facility requires resources that go beyond what the EDA, as a volunteer-led organization, can provide, the EDA wrote in a memo to staff, residents, and family members. “By partnering with LSI Consulting, we want to ensure Wildwood Grove thrives well into the future.”

LSI Consulting, in cooperation with Minnesota-based Minnewaska Community Health Services, owns or manages dozens of assisted living facilities in Minnesota, including in Grand Meadow, Austin and Mabel. The firm will provide operational support, regulatory compliance assistance and marketing expertise while allowing Wildwood Grove to maintain its individual identity.

“The group from LSI we met with was very positive and recognized that we have a great facility with dedicated staff,” said Diane Whalen, who will continue as administrator at Wildwood Grove.

While LSI Consulting will help manage day-to-day operations, the EDA emphasized that it will continue to play an active role in the facility’s oversight. Regular meetings with LSI aim to ensure that Wildwood Grove remains connected to the community and continues to serve its residents effectively.

“Our involvement does not end with this transition,” the EDA noted in its memo. “We will work closely with LSI to monitor the facility’s operations and address any concerns.”

Seeking experience

The EDA spent much of last fall in conversation with LSI to make sure the partnership is a good match. The group was especially impressed with the company’s extensive experience in revitalizing and supporting senior care communities in rural Minnesota.

“They specialize in empowering facilities like Wildwood Grove to remain autonomous while providing the strategic support needed to enhance operations, attract new residents, and adapt to the evolving senior care landscape,” the EDA wrote in its memo. “Their proven track record and focus on maintaining the unique culture of each community make them an excellent partner for us.”

Whalen agreed and said she is looking forward to the additional resources.

This group will be a wonderful resource to help us stay compliant with State of Minnesota regulations, share marketing expertise and help with accounting.  We do not have an accountant, so it will be nice to have a resource,” she said.

Whalen added that she appreciates the EDA’s recognition that the group does not have sufficient expertise in assisted living facility regulations, particularly since new licensing rules took effect in 2021.

“LSI will be a tremendous resource,” she said.

As part of the EDA’s contract with LSI, the firm will receive 5% of Wildwood Grove’s annual revenue.
